Straight answers.

Setting it up, the odd hiccup, and what happens to your data and your purchase.

Getting started

How do I turn it on?

Open Settings, then General, Keyboard, Keyboards, Add New Keyboard, and pick keyboard2. Then tap the globe under any keyboard to switch to it. The keyboard2 app walks you through it the first time you open it.

keyboard2 doesn't show up when I tap the globe

First check that it is in the list under Settings, General, Keyboard, Keyboards. If it is listed and still doesn't appear, restart the iPhone. Now and then iOS only picks up a newly added keyboard after a restart.

Why does iOS warn me about Full Access?

iOS shows the same warning for every keyboard that isn't Apple's. keyboard2 never sends what you type anywhere, with or without it. Typing, predictions, autocorrect, swipe and themes work without Full Access.

What needs Full Access, then?

Haptics, clipboard history, Paste code, photo themes and fonts you add. iOS only allows those with Full Access on, for any keyboard.

Everyday use

Why does Apple's keyboard appear in some fields?

iOS always uses its own keyboard in password fields and phone-number fields. That rule applies to every third-party keyboard. keyboard2 is back in the next field.

Sometimes Apple's keyboard opens instead

iOS gives a keyboard a short time to open and falls back to its own when it misses it. Tap the globe to switch back. If it keeps happening, restarting the iPhone usually settles it.

I get an “Allow Paste” popup

iOS asks every time a keyboard reads what another app copied. In Settings, open keyboard2, then Paste from Other Apps, and choose Allow. The app shows you the way.

It suggests words in the wrong language

Turn on each language you write in the keyboard2 app. With several on, the keyboard follows the language of the sentence. To stay in one, swipe up from the space bar and pick it on the smart wheel.

Where are haptics and key sounds?

Turn them on in the app under Key feedback. Haptics also need Full Access.

The microphone under the keyboard doesn't work

The globe and microphone under the keys belong to iOS. Dictation is turned on in Settings, General, Keyboard, Enable Dictation.

The keys are too small or too big

Change the key height and the gaps between keys and rows in the app, separately for portrait and landscape. A live preview shows the result as you go.

Privacy and purchases

Does it work in airplane mode?

Yes, all of it. The dictionaries and models for every language ship inside the app. There is nothing to download.

What does it learn, and can I delete it?

It learns the words you use and how you capitalise them, stored on your phone and nowhere else. Forget any word, or everything at once, from the app.

I bought keyboard2 when it was a paid app

You keep every premium feature, free. Open the app once after updating and it is unlocked.

New phone, or reinstalled the app?

Your purchase comes back from Apple when you open keyboard2 with the same Apple Account. Your settings and themes travel in a backup file you save from the app.

Can I cancel or get a refund?

Subscriptions are handled by Apple. Cancel any time in Settings, and ask Apple for a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com.
