An iPhone keyboard that actually types Estonian
Tere! If you type Estonian on an iPhone, you know the situation. The stock keyboard has an Estonian layout, but no swipe typing and no suggestions, and its long-press accent menus are full of letters Estonian never uses. Most third-party keyboards are no better, and there is a technical reason why.
Why most keyboards cannot autocorrect Estonian
Apple's system spellchecker has no Estonian dictionary. Third-party keyboards that lean on it for corrections simply have nothing to offer when you write Estonian. keyboard2 does not lean on it: it ships its own Estonian word data inside the app, including word frequencies, word pairs and three-word sequences, so predictions, autocorrect and swipe typing all work in Estonian. The same is true for every one of the 34 languages the app ships.
Missed a täpp? It comes back.
Type a word without its accents and keyboard2 restores them when you commit the word:
The correction runs entirely on the phone. There is no server involved, because the app has no networking code at all.
What you get in Estonian
- Predictions and next-word suggestions, built from real Estonian text
- Autocorrect that knows Estonian words, not just English ones
- Swipe typing across the Estonian layout, õ, ä, ö and ü included
- Long-press accents that match the language, without the clutter
- Automatic language detection when you mix Estonian and English
- All of it offline: nothing to download, nothing leaves your device
Built here, for this exact problem
keyboard2 is made by an Estonian developer who switched from Android and could not find an iOS keyboard that typed his own language well. So he built the keyboard iOS never gave him. The app also brings the customization iOS keyboards usually lack: 100+ themes plus your own, your own fonts and photo backgrounds, and layouts you can rearrange key by key.
What it costs, honestly
The download is free, your first hour of typing runs every premium feature, and the 7-day free trial extends that to a full week. After that, premium (predictions, autocorrect, swipe typing, most themes and more) is 0.99€ per month or 7.99€ per year, or 17.99€ once for lifetime.
Fair notice: keyboard2 covers Latin-script languages only. If you also need Cyrillic, Arabic or CJK input, keep a second keyboard for those.
